The Analog Devices LTC2971 is a 2 channel power system management (PSM) device. It is specialized for use in applications like high-performance networking, and performs tasks such as monitoring voltages, trimming supplies, and supervising fault conditions.
The LTC2971 can directly sense +54Vin as well as the input current, and can actively manage 2 switching converters to within .25% accuracy. It is highly programmable, with users able to define the sequence of converter functionality with on/off delays. There is no software required to operate this component, it functions 100% autonomously. Most importantly, the LTC2971 can detect faults very quickly, and can automatically shut down in less than 20μs. For the initial set-up of a PSM device, Analog Devices offers LTpowerPlay software, which can be used for programming, debugging, and displaying real-time telemetry.
