Cable Clamps and Clips
Cable clamps and clips are small wiring accessories that help to support and organize cables along a supporting structure like a wall or beam. There are many forms and fastening types available as well as levels of strength and durability. Clamps typically have a mechanism for cinching down the wire to both support and immobilize it, whereas clips are usually a cheaper and simpler solution that mostly provide support for a wire without the added holding friction.
The simplest and most well known variety of cable clamps are simply folded metal that is tightened and secured to the wire by the down force of a screw attaching to a supporting structure. Other more complex clamps are attached to a structure with a nail or screw and rely on separate tightening mechanisms to hold the wire, often a type of cable tie with rear-facing teeth that prevent backward loosening.
Cable clips usually just provide a holding path for a wire or cable to keep it maintained along a desired path. The simplest of these are C-shaped pieces, which are nailed or screwed to a wall or stud after a wire is placed within the clip. Other forms are built with an arm that rotates upwards and clips into place, securing the wire. Many simple household clips are also secured with an adhesive backing for easy and less damaging attachments.
