Helping companies design and implement “green” technologies

Technology is the driving force enabling many products to ‘go green.’ Businesses are trying to find ways to create and build their products by using earth-friendly parts and components.

Arrow assists companies in going green during all stages in the process, from design through implementation, providing products that are free of hazardous materials and use the most energy-efficient technologies.

Arrow’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bill Mitchell said, “The technology industry is a leader in the ‘green’ movement and, at Arrow Electronics, we work with our clients to design and implement green technologies.  Arrow led the way in helping our customers become RoHS compliant (which is an acronym for “Restriction of Hazardous Substances”).  This European directive requires that electrical and electronics components are free of restricted and hazardous materials such as lead and mercury.  While the RoHS directive went into effect in 2006, Arrow continues to develop ways to help our customers ensure the parts they buy are compliant with the RoHS requirements.”

Energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diodes) technologies, another green product that Arrow provides, can significantly reduce energy consumption worldwide. Mitchell explained, “Arrow provides design and engineering services for developing LED lighting solutions.  We also work with companies to create lighting fixtures that accommodate this energy-efficient LED technology and help to quickly get it to the marketplace.”

Virtualization is another technology that Arrow’s Enterprise Computing Solutions business offers to help customers save time, space and energy, and ultimately reduce their costs.  “Arrow helps businesses achieve greater data storage capacity without buying and housing more servers, resulting in reduced energy consumption and lower operational costs such as heating, cooling and maintenance,” explained Mitchell.
