MELVILLE, N.Y. – Apr. 24, 2009 –Arrow Electronics, Inc. hosted more than 100 children of employees at its Melville, N.Y., and Denver facilities for the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day on April 23. Children ranging in ages from nine to14 participated in a full-day program to learn about where their parents work, what they do and why it’s important.
Children at each Arrow facility participated in a charitable activity as part of the day’s program. In Melville, students prepared more than 50 care packages for senior citizens supported through Family and Children's Association of Long Island, with food and personal care items donated by King Kullen Supermarkets. At Arrow’s Denver office, children decorated more than 150 bags for Project Angel Heart, which will be used to deliver meals to people suffering from serious illnesses in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas. Each organization also received a monetary contribution from Arrow.

The day’s agenda included a “meeting” between the Melville and Denver groups via Arrow’s state-of-the-art “global connect – telepresence” room. Children in each location communicated real time on large video screens, while utilizing interactive smartboards and other shared presentation tools. Students also participated in structured and social activities, tours and spent one-on-one time with their parents to learn about their jobs.
“We worked to develop a program that was educational, engaging and fun, while demonstrating an important aspect of the business world - good corporate citizenship,” said Paulette Pekera, vice president of global human resources programs for Arrow Electronics. “More than 70 Arrow employees volunteered their time to create an interactive environment in which our employees could spend time with their kids, and help them better understand their parents’ important contributions in the workplace.”
